With fall 2023 final exam season underway, the Turner College is providing its students with a hot cocoa bar on Tuesday, December 5, from 10:00 am through 2:00 pm in the Synovus Center lobby on CSU's main campus. Sweets and hot cocoa will be available at the bar, while movies will be shown in the Synovus Center Theater, just off the main lobby.

TSYS School cybersecurity Nexus students recently received a visit from Brandon Sellers, Manager of Security Engineering at Aflac, and Jonathan White, Information Security Manager at Global Payments. Sellers, who has been with Aflac almost 20 years, has also consulted for TSYS. He is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional and an AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner. White spent almost 25 years at Aflac before joining Global Payments.  He holds an ISC2 Cybersecurity Certification and an ITIL Certificate in IT Service Management. Director of the TSYS Center for Cybersecurity, Patrick Aiken , stated that it was an honor to welcome Sellers and White, adding, " They shared insights into their companies' working environments and gave advice to our cybersecurity Nexus  students about how to prepare themselves to break into the cybersecurity  industry. [We t]hank [them] both for sharing [their] valuable knowledge and experience with our students."

As indicated in a recent story published by Columbus CEO ,  building on its longstanding partnership with the U.S. Army’s Maneuver Captains Career Course,  the Turner College's  MSOL program is now available to graduates of all of the U.S. Army’s active-duty Captains Career Courses. As the story indicates,  since 2012, soldiers participating in the Fort Moore-based  Maneuver Captains Career Course   have received pre-approved academic transfer credit toward the Turner College's master’s degree in organizational leadership. Today, t his opportunity is now expanded to every soldier graduating from any of the Army’s Captains Career Courses.  “All of our Army captains can be halfway to a master’s degree when they graduate from their CCC, and they can complete the degree online in their following assignment,” explained Maj. TSYS School cybersecurity and other students are invited to come out Thursday, November 30, for the November professional development meeting of the Columbus chapter of the Information Systems Security Association. The guest speaker is Benjamin Price , a cyber engineering analyst with Global Payments and Nexus alumnus of the TSYS School. The meeting runs from 5:30 pm until 7:00 pm in the TSYS Center for Cybersecurity on the first floor of the Synovus Center on CSU's main campus. The discussion will revolve around processes surrounding security engineering and where scripting plays a major role in cyber-related fields. Attendees are asked to bring a laptop with Python 3.X in order to participate. 

New research by Turner College economics professor Frank Mixon  and João Ricardo Faria of Florida Atlantic University relates the diffusion of critical theory into American colleges to the creation and growth of soft graduate programs associated with the ideologies that form the modern generation or wave of critical theory, which is often referred to as cultural Marxism. Mixon and Faria develop a formal model showing that the growth of these soft, politically correct graduate programs leads to increasing university costs and tuition, growing bureaucratic offices and expansion of these same graduate programs, and greater faculty pay and employment.  The formal model constituting the bulk of the study also provides conditions that lead the number of bureaucrats at an institution to eclipse the number of faculty employed by the institution. According to a new study, Turner College associate dean and professor of economics, Tesa Leonce-Regalado , ranks among the top Black academic economists in the U.S. The study, which is set to appear in the Review of Black Political Economy , ranks economists on the basis of citations to their prior research. According to this process, Leonce-Regalado is tied at 168th with Michael Mamo of Westminster College. Both Leonce-Regalado and Mamo are ranked just ahead of  Russell Williams of Wheaton College, Ian Wright of the University of Miami, and MacKenzie Alston of the University of Illinois, and just behind Uchechukwu Jarrett of the University of Nebraska, David McMillon of Emory University, and Regina Tawah of Bowie State University.
