Turner College Alumni Named among ‘5 under 40’ for 2021

Columbus and the Valley magazine recently honored Columbus residents in their “5 under 40” and “Rising Stars” lists .  Among the lists were several CSU alumni and faculty.  Of the “5 under 40” honorees, two have ties to the Turner College of Business.  Jessica Ferriter earned a master’s degree in organizational leadership (MSOL) from the Turner College in 2016 and has served on the CSU Alumni Association Board of Directors.  Currently, she is the human resources director at Southeastern Cardiology Associates, PC. She holds both the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) and Associate Certified Coach (ACC) designations, and throughout her career, she has worked in corporate, government and military sectors.  The other honoree, Cortney Laughlin Wilson, is a 2012 graduate of the Turner College’s MSOL program.  In addition to serving as director of CSU’s William B. Leonce Named to Editorial Board

  Turner College associate professor Tesa Leonce was recently named to the editorial board of Compensation & Benefits Review .  The journal, which launched in 1969 and is published by SAGE, is the leading journal for senior executives and professionals who design, implement, evaluate and communicate compensation and benefits policies and programs.   Leonce joins scholars from Harvard University, Cornell University, University of Chicago, among others, in comprising the 16-member board.  Her own 2020 publication in the journal, titled “The Inevitable Rise in Dual Income Households and the Intertemporal Effects on Labor Markets,” currently holds the journal’s highest altmetrics score (of 33).  Altmetrics are metrics and qualitative data that are complementary to traditional, citation-based metrics that can include (but are not limited to) citations in public policy documents, discussions on research blogs, mainstream media coverage, and mentions on social networks such as Twitter.  

Mixon’s Research Featured in Times Higher Education

  A new study by Turner College economist Frank Mixon and his coauthor João Faria of Florida Atlantic University appearing in Scientometrics is the focus of a July 2021 report by Jack Grove in Times Higher Education .   Grove’s report, titled “What is a Highly Cited Paper Worth? About £10,000 a Year,” indicates that Mixon’s study s ug gests that the impact of a highly cited paper on an academic’s pay may be higher than prior studies have indicated.   The study links publicly available information on pay in three of the largest state university systems in the U.S. to citations data, tracking how changes in one of a scholar’s citation indices resulting from a new publication affects his or her annual income.   According to the study, an economics professor in the state of Illinois could expect to see his or her income increase by 8.9 percent on average if a paper improved his or her citation index by one-half standard deviation.   In Florida, an economics professor’s pay was likely to
