Turner Business is pleased to announce that three faculty have been nominated for the 2024 Turner College Faculty Research Award. The first of these is Jasmine Bordere , associate professor of accounting in the Turner College. Bordere joined CSU after completing PhD studies at the University of Alabama. During this time Bordere published an article on audit risks in  Current Issues in Auditing , and since joining the Turner College she has published five articles in Internal Auditing . The two most recent of these, each published in 2021, delve into unsustainable dividend payments and climate change financial reporting disclosures. In 2020, Bordere's research program branched into servant leadership. That year she published a study in the International Journal of Servant-Leadership examining servant leadership examples during the well-known U.S. Navy Seal mission memorialized by the motion picture Lone Survivor . The TSYS School is happy to announce that Aflac representatives will be on CSU's main campus on February 27, 2024, to share valuable insights about the exciting work environment at Aflac, provide tips on interviews, and discuss the latest opportunities available for computer science students. The main  session will be held in the Synovus Center Theater at 11:00 am. There will also be a special "meet and greet," with light breakfast, for ACM, GGDA, and WIT club members and AFLAC ITAs/employees from 9:30 am to 10:30 am. Turner Business thanks Turner College Outreach Director Laurie Aiken  and TSY School Chair Rania Hodhod for organizing  Aflac's visit to the TSYS School. "Laurie and I believe this will be a fantastic opportunity for students to gain insights into the industry and network with professionals. Additionally, students will have the chance to share their resumes and ask questions directly to Aflac representatives," Hodhod added.

The first of these is Kirk Heriot , holder of the Turner College's Crowley Chair in Entrepreneurship. Heriot, who joined the Turner College in August of 2007, is currently the faculty sponsor of the Turner College's 2024 Study Abroad program set for Ireland in May. He also sponsors the Turner College's annual Cougar Business Pitch Competition, and is the founding editor of the American Journal of Entrepreneurship . During the 2022-2023 academic year, Heriot co-hosted a "Meet the Editors" roundtable as part of that year's  CSU Graduate Research & Writing Boot Camp, while later that same year he delivered  a Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) workshop aimed at helping new entrepreneurs and small business owners understand the importance of business strategy.      The second nominee is Fady Mansour , the recently appoin...

The Turner College will be well represented at the 6th Annual Let's Grow STEAM Youth College & Career Expo, which is set for February 13-15.  Rania Hodhod , Chair of the TSYS School of Computer Science, will be part of a panel titled "What's Tea? AI & Me," and in that capacity she will be speaking alongside Shea Spencer, Customer Service Manager at TSYS. Hodhod and Spencer will be discussing how artificial intelligence, commonly known as AI, has become a significant phenomenon since the onset of COVID-19. "B eing a panelist on this [session of the Expo] presents an exciting opportunity for me to engage directly with high school students, inspiring them with the wonders of artificial intelligence and fostering meaningful dialogue about its potential impact on our future," Hodhod stated.

Turner Business is pleased to announce that three faculty have been nominated for the 2024 Turner College Faculty Teaching Award.  The first of these is  Joshua Brooks , associate professor of finance in the Turner College.  Brooks joined CSU in August of 2017, after a brief stint at Lander University. He previously won the 2022 Turner College Online Teaching Award and was nominated for the 2023 CSU Teaching Innovation Award. He is currently a nominee for the 2024 CSU Excellence in Online Teaching Award, which will be awarded in April.  "I try new things in the classroom and am thrilled to be a part of a university that prides itself in both academic and pedagogical excellence,” Brooks stated.      The second nominee is  Phil Bryant , associate professor of management in the Turner College. The Turner College continues to develop new pathways for active-duty military personnel to earn their master’s degrees. The newest of those pathways includes awarding soldiers with nine academic credit hours for specific professional military education.  Graduates of Fort Bliss' resident U.S. Army Sergeant Major Academy who pursue the university’s Leader Development track in the Master of Science in Organizational Leadership program are eligible to receive up to nine transfer credit hours.  This follows the recent move to grant nine transfer credit hours toward the MSOL program for active-duty soldiers completing any of the Army's Captains Career Courses.  “With the steps we are taking and the partnerships we are pursuing, Columbus State is poised to become the Army’s graduate school,” said Maj. Turner College student  Oliver Odde has joined the Turner College's Butler Center staff and will be assisting Fady Mansour , the Director of the Butler Center, in providing economic development analyses to local governments and businesses. Odde, a senior in the Turner College majoring in management information systems, brings an interesting background to the job. Born in Seattle, Oliver grew up outside of Evansville, Indiana.  Shortly after high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he spent 12 years as a tank crewman, five of which were spent at Fort Moore. Oliver is currently the secretary of the Turner College's chapter of SHRM, and in that position he serves alongside his wife,  Natasya Odde , a Columbus native who is currently in the Turner College's MSOL program and serves as the SHRM vice president.
