Brooks, Bryant, and Zhou Nominated for 2024 Turner College Faculty Teaching Award

Turner Business is pleased to announce that three faculty have been nominated for the 2024 Turner College Faculty Teaching Award.  The first of these is Joshua Brooks, associate professor of finance in the Turner College.  Brooks joined CSU in August of 2017, after a brief stint at Lander University. He previously won the 2022 Turner College Online Teaching Award and was nominated for the 2023 CSU Teaching Innovation Award. He is currently a nominee for the 2024 CSU Excellence in Online Teaching Award, which will be awarded in April. "I try new things in the classroom and am thrilled to be a part of a university that prides itself in both academic and pedagogical excellence,” Brooks stated.
     The second nominee is Phil Bryant, associate professor of management in the Turner College. Bryant joined CSU in August of 2010 after serving on the management faculty at Christian Brothers University. Bryant recently led the Turner College's efforts to revamp its Introduction to Business course, BUSA 2115. Under the new format for the course, faculty from each discipline group take ownership of a week during the semester to provide students with lectures, interactive activities, and/or guest speakers. At the end of the week, students enrolled in the course will complete an in-class activity in order to assess their understanding of the concepts and activities that were covered and presented. Turner College administration and faculty are hoping the new format increases interest in the majors and minors offered by the college.
     The third nominee is Yi Zhou, associate professor of computer science in the TSYS School. Zhou joined CSU in August of 2018, after completing PhD studies at Auburn University. Winner of the 2023 Turner College Research Award, Zhou is seeking his first teaching-related award since joining CSU. His teaching skills have not gone unnoticed thus far, as exemplified by comments from a recent student, "Dr. Yi is a great professor who offers a wealth of knowledge. His lectures can be intellectually demanding, [so] if you're struggling, don't hesitate to visit him during office hours; he's very approachable and dedicated to student success. He advocates for academic and career opportunities. Embrace the challenge and you'll find your time in his class rewarding."

Deborah Kidder's Tenure as Dean of the Turner College Set to End on December 12th

The Turner College community was informed this morning that Deborah Kidder 's tenure as Dean of the organization is set to end on December 12, 2025. An e-mail communication to Turner College faculty from CSU Provost & Executive Vice President Dustin Anderson states, " I am writing to share that Dr. Deborah Kidder will be stepping down as Dean of the Turner College of Business & Technology, effective December 12, 2025.
