Turner College Faculty Demographics – A Look at the Numbers

There has been much frustration in the Turner College concerning the lack of support from CSU's central administration when it comes to replacing faculty who either retire or depart for another institution. Several current Turner College faculty members have warned that this failure could be disastrous in the very near future, as a number of faculty are expected to retire. Turner Business recently took a look at the demographics of the Turner College's faculty. Here is part of what we learned.
Turner College
The table above provides information on the percentage of Turner College faculty at each of several individual ages (e.g., 60, 61, etc.) and, at the upper end, at or beyond the age of 64. Starting at the top of the table, fully 13% of Turner College faculty are beyond 64 years of age. Another 10% of Turner College faculty are exactly 64 years old. Thus, a striking 23% (almost 1.2 in 5) of Turner College faculty are 64 years old or older. Backing up just four additional years, to 60 years of age, and another 17% of Turner College faculty are included. Put differently, 40% of all Turner College faculty (i.e., 2 in 5) are 60 years old or older. The next table below adds to the story, showing that much of what is observed in the table above is being driven by the profile of the Department of Management & Marketing.
Department of Management & Marketing
According to the numbers just above, 15.38% of the faculty in the Department of Management & Marketing exceed 64 years of age, with another 23.08% at 64 years of age. That is, fully 38.46% of management, marking and MIS faculty (i.e., 1.9 in 5) are 64 years old or older. Backing up just one additional year, we see that 46.15% of the faculty in the Department of Management & Marketing (i.e., 2.3 in 5) are 63 years of age or older. If we finish this analysis where the one above concluded, we see that 61.53% of all faculty in the Department of Management & Marketing (i.e., almost 3.1 in 5) are 60 years old or older.
