With only 12 days remaining for the submission of applications, it's looking like the advertisement for a new dean of the Turner College will not make its way into either The Chronicle of Higher Education or Inside Higher Ed, the two traditional avenues for attracting a pool of candidates for an executive position in higher education. Now, the Turner College is only about a month, if not a little less, from having finalists for the position on campus for their interviews, meetings and presentations. Our recent check of Open Georgia indicates that the previous dean, Deborah Kidder, earned a 2025 salary of $192,000 per year, as reported here recently. Comparisons with other entries at that site suggest that this figure included a stipend of unknown amount from the Bill Heard Endowment, which was established to financially support holders of the position. Missing from our recent analysis of the salaries of business school deans across the USG's regional universities was information on salaries at Georgia College & State University and the University of North Georgia. In both cases, the current dean is a recent hire and, therefore, is absent from the salary database. Turner Business can confirm that the interim dean of business at GC&SU earned a salary of $181,780.34 during 2025, a figure that likely exceeds that for the Turner College dean minus the Bill Heard stipend. At UNG, a permanent dean was in place during FY2025, and that individual earned a 2025 salary of $223,164.95 per year. The current business deans at these two institutions are likely earning more than $181,780 and $223,165, respectively, with the former of these likely earning substantially more than the reported figure (i.e., $181,780).
The long-awaited journal review being conducted by the Australian Business Deans Council (ABDC) has been released and there are a number of news items that relate to faculty in the Turner College. One of these is the ABDC's decision to now include Compensation and Benefits Review in its journal rankings. This is big news for the Turner College as its editor, Phil Bryant , is a professor of management in the Turner College. The ABDC is proposing that the journal enter its system for the first time as a C-rated journal. Acting Turner College Dean Tesa Leonce sits on the journal's editorial board, while Turner College management professor Mark James has guest-edited an issue of the journal. Published by SAGE, Compensation & Benefits Review is the leading journal for senior executives and professionals who design, implement, evaluate and communicate compensation and benefits policies and programs.
