Turner College News & Notes: September 14, 2026

This is a big week for the Turner College as it renews its Distinguished Speaker Series at 11:00am on September 17, 2026, with a visit from Mike Harrell, who is the owner of both 11th and Bay Southern Table in Uptown Columbus and the New York Butcher Shoppe in North Columbus. Harrell will be speaking to Turner College students and faculty about entrepreneurship and servant leadership. A special thanks goes out to management information systems professor Jennifer Pitts, who has spearheaded the renewal of this important program.

It's now mid-September and the advertisement seeking a new dean of the Turner College has yet to be posted at either The Chronicle of Higher Education or Inside Higher Ed. A check of both of these sources indicates that only six other business schools are currently in the advertising stage of their search for a new dean. This list includes three schools listed in our earlier blog post, and three new business schools that have entered competition. The current list, including the Turner College, is provided below.

According to Google AI, the probability of having a new business school dean in place by January of 2027 when the advertisement for the position is missing on 14 September 2026 is extremely low (less than 5%), given that the typical national dean search takes six to nine months and just short of 3.5 months separates the two dates above.

ABDC Releases 2025 Journal Review, Now Ranks Journal Edited by Phil Bryant

The long-awaited journal review being conducted by the Australian Business Deans Council (ABDC) has been released and there are a number of news items that relate to faculty in the Turner College. One of these is the ABDC's decision to now include Compensation and Benefits Review in its journal rankings. This is big news for the Turner College as its editor, Phil Bryant , is a professor of management in the Turner College. The ABDC is proposing that the journal enter its system for the first time as a C-rated journal. Acting Turner College Dean Tesa Leonce sits on the journal's editorial board, while Turner College management professor Mark James has guest-edited an issue of the journal. Deborah Kidder's Tenure as Dean of the Turner College Set to End on December 12th

The Turner College community was informed this morning that Deborah Kidder 's tenure as Dean of the organization is set to end on December 12, 2025. An e-mail communication to Turner College faculty from CSU Provost & Executive Vice President Dustin Anderson states, " I am writing to share that Dr. Deborah Kidder will be stepping down as Dean of the Turner College of Business & Technology, effective December 12, 2025.
