The first of two virtual listening sessions was held earlier this evening in preparation for a formal nationwide search for a new Dean of the Turner College. The session was managed by Mark Baker and Dinah DeWitt of the Buffkin/Baker search firm, which is contracted to assist CSU in selecting candidates for the post. Near the beginning of the meeting, Teresa Dodson, Senior Executive Assistant to CSU Provost Dustin Anderson, posted the list of search committee members in the group chat. That list of 10 individuals is shown below, and indicates that Margie Yates, Dean of CSU's College of Education and Health Professions, is chairing the group. Joining Yates are (1) Gisung Moon, professor of finance and Chair of the Turner College's Department of Accounting and Finance, (2) Wen Shi, associate professor of economics, (3) John Finley, professor of management and Chair of the Turner College's Department of Management and Marketing, (4) Robin Snipes, professor of management, (5) Neal Thomson, professor of management, (6) Tom Ngo, assistant professor of management, (7) Yvette Moore, Executive Coordinator to the Dean of the Turner College, (8) Shana Young, CSU Associate Vice President for Community Engagement, and (9) Heath Schondelmayer, Regional President at Pinnacle Financial.
A little bit of analysis of the information above indicates that the "outside:inside" ratio (of members) is 3:7. Also, 40% of the membership is accounted for by management faculty. Most importantly, as was pointed out by an attendee, none of the members comes from the TSYS School, including its chair Rania Hodhod. It was pointed out during the meeting that this was an intentional choice made by the Provost, given that he has other plans involving computer science and robotics engineering. The group discussed the importance of the Turner College's upcoming AACSB re-accreditation effort, the importance of having ethical leadership in the Dean's office, the helpfulness of having a new dean with experience managing people, preferably in a capacity as Dean of another business college, the ability to lead in a rapidly changing environment, and the importance of getting Turner College (and CSU) students back on campus.
