A Partial Look at the Supply Side of the Market for Business School Deans

A recent post here at Turner Business provides an examination of the current demand side of the market for business deans, which involves a look at which institutions are currently searching for a business school dean and which of these will be competing with the Turner College. This post follows up by examining the current supply side of the that market, which partially involves a look at who has reached the finalists level of, or succeeded in, recent or current searches for business school deans by other in-state institutions.
A good example is the current search being undertaken by the J. Whitney Bunting College of Business & Technology at Georgia College & State University. The first finalist for the position, William Hill, was invited to the GCSU campus on November 13-14. Hill is currently the Dean of the College of Business at the University of West Alabama. On November 17-18 the second finalist, Joey Smith, visited the GCSU campus. Smith is currently the Chair of the Department of Economics and David A. Johnson Professor in Predictive Analytics at the University of West GeorgiaSmith formerly worked as a Senior Research Associate for the Fiscal Research Center at Georgia State University. The third finalist, Reham Eltantawy, visited the GCSU campus on November 19-20. Eltantawy is currently the Chair of the Department of Marketing and Logistics at the University of North Florida. On November 20-21 the fourth finalist, Amit Ghosh, visited the GCSU campus. Ghosh is currently the Chair of the Division of International Banking and Finance Studies at Texas A&M International University.
Next, in June of this year, after initiating a search at the beginning of 2025, the University of North Georgia named Rachel Clapp-Smith as Dean of its Mike Cottrell College of Business. Clapp-Smith was previously the Dean of the College of Business at Purdue University Northwest. Clapp-Smith holds a Ph.D. in organizational behavior from the University of Nebraska and an M.B.A. from the Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University. She took on her new role on July 21, 2025.
About one month ago the Parker College of Business at Georgia Southern University selected Nivine Richie as its new Dean. Richie joins GSU from the University of North Carolina Wilmington, where she served as Associate Dean of Graduate, International, and Executive Programs in the Cameron School of Business. A Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Richie began her career in the private sector as a vice president and trader in mortgage-backed securities before transitioning to academia. She earned her Ph.D. in finance from Florida Atlantic University and a B.S. in finance from Pennsylvania State University. GSU launched its search for a new business dean in April of 2025. Richie's tenure in this position will begin on January 1, 2026.
