Turner College Management Professor's Father Receives Honorary Doctorate from the University of Memphis

The Spring 2025 graduation ceremony at the University of Memphis was a big one for Turner College management professor Phil Bryant and his family. During the ceremony Bryant's father, Ben, received an honorary doctorate degree and Phil was able to participate in the hooding portion of that event. "I’m excited, humbled, and honored to be a part of my dad’s hooding ceremony tomorrow at the University of Memphis," Phil Bryant explained the day before the ceremony. Ben Bryant is currently Executive-in-Residence at the Crews Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Memphis, assisting with advice, direction and mentoring for the initiatives within the Center. He is also a member of the Crews Center for Entrepreneurship Advisory Board, the Management Information Systems Advisory Council, the U of M President’s Innovation Board, and a former Executive-in-Residence of the FedEx Institute of Technology. Ben Bryant is Vice-Chairman of the University of Memphis Board of Visitors and is a past President of the Tiger Athletics Advisory Board. He is a past member of the President's Research Foundation Board, and in 1999, he was given the University's Distinguished Alumni Award. In 2010, Ben Bryant received the Tennessee Board of Regents Award for Excellence in Philanthropy and is a chartered member of the University of Memphis Athletic Ambassador Club. He formerly served on the Board of Directors for Monogram Food Solutions. He has served as president of Cook Systems International, president of BCB Investment Group and Chairman and CEO of SCB Computer Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCBI) of which he was a founder of as Seltmann, Cobb & Bryant, Management Consultants in 1976. Ben Bryant was inducted into the Society of Entrepreneurs in 1999. Lastly, he received BBA in Accounting in 1968 from Memphis State University, and an MS in Management Information Systems from the University of Memphis in 1995.

The long-awaited journal review being conducted by the Australian Business Deans Council (ABDC) has been released and there are a number of news items that relate to faculty in the Turner College. One of these is the ABDC's decision to now include  Compensation and Benefits Review in its journal rankings. This is big news for the Turner College as its editor, Phil Bryant , is a professor of management in the Turner College. The ABDC is proposing that the journal enter its system for the first time as a C-rated journal. Acting Turner College Dean Tesa Leonce sits on the journal's editorial board, while Turner College management professor Mark James has guest-edited an issue of the journal. Deborah Kidder's Tenure as Dean of the Turner College Set to End on December 12th

The Turner College community was informed this morning that Deborah Kidder 's tenure as Dean of the organization is set to end on December 12, 2025. An e-mail communication to Turner College faculty from CSU Provost & Executive Vice President Dustin Anderson states, " I am writing to share that Dr. Deborah Kidder will be stepping down as Dean of the Turner College of Business & Technology, effective December 12, 2025. The New Financial Times Top 50 Business Journals Just Released

The newest list of Top 50 journals in business has been released by The Financial Times . This list is used by many of the top business schools around the globe to evaluate business faculty. Containing only 50 journals, this list is generally too restrictive to use as an assessment tool at most business schools. The typical business school employs longer lists constructed by the Chartered Association of Business Schools, the Australian Business Deans Council and Scimago. The new FT Top 50 list is provided below.
