There is some exciting news to report from the Columbus State University chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). First, the group is hosting a Documentary Night on November 21 at 6:00 pm to screen the film AlphaGo. The film presents how AlphaGo, a computer program developed by DeepMind Technologies, mastered the game of Go through artificial intelligence. Its competence was tested by Lee Sedol, a South Korean World Champion. Prior to the screening, at 5:45 pm, the ACM will put on a 10-minute presentation on adversarial search, dating back to its origins. There will be a 5-minute intermission between this presentation and the start of the film.
Next, student ACM Presentations will be unveiled on December 2 in the Synovus Center Theater. There visitors will be able hear about some of the exciting projects being undertaken by TSYS School computer science students. Round 1 presentations will begin at 11:00 am, followed by a food break at 12:00 noon. Round 2 presentations will commence at 12:30 pm and continue until 1:30 pm. Food and drinks will be provided. This is an excellent opportunity to network with peers, to share knowledge of concepts, technologies, and more, to gain inspiration for future projects, and to celebrate the academic achievement of our computer science students.
Lastly, students who are Interested in machine learning should make sure to join the ACM Book Club community. Meetings are held on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7:00 pm on Discord. The link to the ACM Discord is here. The Club is current discussing Machine Learning with PyTorch and Scikit-Learn. A new topic is selected each week, so participants and visitors can jump in and learn at any time. Additional topics will be chosen at a future date. This is an excellent opportunity to join a community of like-minded students looking to learn different topics in the field of computer science.
