Turner College Marketing Major Madison McDonald Putting Academic Skills to Work for CSU Softball

As part of her role on the CSU softball team, Turner College marketing major Madison McDonald is charged with promoting the team's Bullpen Club. "My role involves making connections to attract both current members and potential new members. The goal is to increase membership of the club which would in turn increase game attendance and boost overall engagement with the softball community. I use Facebook and make contacts through text messages and phone calls to reach possible new members and share information," Madison explained. The Bullpen Club provides updated information through newsletters sent through e-mail and provides information on social media about the softball program and the players. "The involvement of promoting the Bullpen Club helps emphasize the critical role that communication plays in connecting the community and family members that provide support to the student athletes throughout the season and the school year. I have learned how valuable it is to make connections and the impact they can make in effective marketing strategies," Madison added.
     Madison is a senior shortstop from Lanett, Alabama, who transferred to CSU from Anderson University. Last season, her first at CSU, Madison started 41 games and posted a .302 batting average with 32 hits, 5 home runs, 2 doubles and 26 RBI. She also recorded a .462 slugging percentage and a .358 on-base percentage with 15 runs scored. Lastly, she marked a .913 fielding percentage, with 67 outs and 70 assists. Last season CSU finished 35-24 overall, and 16-8 in the Peach Belt Conference. After the regular season, the Lady Cougars went 4-1 in Peach Belt pool play and advanced to the championship series against the University of North Georgia. Upon taking 2 of the 3 games and claiming the championship, CSU advanced to the NCAA tournament where they fell to both Francis Marion University and Flagler College.

TSYS School, Jianhua Yang, Lixin Wang Each among Top Five in the World

New research by computer scientists in the School of Information Technology at Universiti Utara Malaysia that ranks institutions and individuals on the basis of scholarship in the area of stepping-stone attacks heaps praise on the Turner College’s TSYS School of Computer Science and two of its faculty – Jianhua Yang and Lixin Wang .   The article, published in the April 2023 issue of the International Journal of Research in Engineering and Science , provides a bibliometric analysis of both publication and citation data from 2000 to September of 2022 related to research on stepping-stone intrusion.   Among several results, it reports that Columbus State University ranks second worldwide, trailing only the University of Houston, using total publications on the subject as the basis of comparison.   A number of other U.S. institutions appear in the top 10, including third-ranked North Carolina State University, fourth-ranked University of Illinois, sixth-ranked Iowa State U...

New Butler Center Report Identifies Employment Gaps in the Columbus Area

Officials in the Turner College's Butler Center for Research and Economic Development recently put the finishing touches on an extensive report on trends in educational programs and occupations in the Columbus area. The report also includes data on business and technology trends.  According to Fady Mansour , Director of the Butler Center, there are several key takeaways from the report regarding 10 occupational gaps that currently exist in the Columbus area. First,  software development occupation exhibits the biggest labor shortage, with the report adding that the TSYS School has a bachelor's degree program in information technology along with a new AI track for the bachelor's degree in computer science, both of which can qualify students for this occupation.
