Md Amjad Hossain Set to Join TSYS School Computer Science Faculty in August

The TSYS School announced yesterday that Md Amjad Hossain will be joining its faculty as an assistant professor of computer science in August of 2024. Amjad is currently an assistant professor of computer science at Emporia State University. He earned an undergraduate degree in computer science from Khulna University of Engineering and Technology in 2008, and a PhD in computer science from Kent State University in 2018. After graduation, Amjad worked as an assistant professor of computer science at Shepherd University for one year before departing for Emporia State University, where he has been for the past three academic years.
His research interests include multimedia computing and networking, software-defined networking, and data analytics. While at Kent State University Amjad worked on three major research projects. In one, he and his colleagues visualized the most popular hashtags worldwide from Twitter using Python with Twitter API; HTML, D3 Library, and Google’s Visualization API. In a second they analyzed New York City taxi data to find, using MrJob and HDFS, the average income of taxi drivers and the fare payment method for which passengers are more likely to pay tips. The third project proposed and implemented new algorithms for micro-vessel segmentation, analyzed length and volume of micro-vessels in large image stacks, and identified branches of micro-vessels and colored them with non-adjacent colors.
Amjad's research portfolio includes publications dating back to 2012, when he published studies in both the Journal of Computers and the International Journal of Computer Science and Information Technology. He followed these two in 2013 with publications in the International Journal of Computer Science and Information Technology and the International Journal of Advanced Computer Science and Applications. In 2020, just after commencing his academic career, Amjad published a study in IET Image Processing. In 2021 he followed with publications in Healthcare and IEEE Access, the latter of which is an A-rated journal outlet. His most recent publication came in a 2022 issue of Sustainable Cities and Society, another A-rated journal outlet.
As indicated in a recent entry here at Turner Business, Amjad's hiring brings the TSYS School's faculty roster up to 13 full-time professors whose doctoral credentials are sourced from 10 separate universities. This list includes Auburn, Brigham Young, Houston, Illinois Tech, Indiana, Kent State, LSU, Old Dominion, Virginia Tech, and the University of York. Turner Business welcomes Amjad to the TSYS School and wishes him continued professional success.
