CSU Enrollment Up 1.8%, Reverses 2-Year Slide

According to a recent press release from the University System of Georgia, enrollment at CSU has reversed a 2-year decline by growing 1.8% between fall 2022 and fall 2023. On a headcount basis, CSU has grown by 137 students compared to fall 2022. Among the USG State Universities, Georgia Southwestern State University leads the enrollment growth race, increasing its enrollment by 11% (339 students) since this time last year. Just behind is Georgia College and State University, which has grown by 7.9% (496 students), followed by Fort Valley State University (6%, or 156 students), Middle Georgia State University (4.6%, or 350 students) and Savannah State University (4.6%, or 137 students), and Albany State University (3.8%, or 241 students).  On a percentage growth basis, CSU ranks 7th among the nine USG State Universities, while on a headcount growth basis CSU is tied for 6th with Savannah State University. Total enrollment across the nine USG State Universities grew by 3.6%, or 3,294 students.
     A breakdown of CSU's fall 2023 enrollment is shown in the table below.

The data indicate that CSU's largest group is its seniors, followed closely by its graduate students. These students will soon be exiting the halls of the University. The current junior class is relatively small, at just 1,067 students, followed closely by the relatively small sophomore class of 1,166 students.  Among the student body, 705 (9.2%) are Hispanic, 20 (0.3%) are Native American, 284 (3.7%) are Asian, 2,766 (36.2%) are Black/African American, seven (0.1%) are Pacific Islanders, 3,306 (43.3%) are White, 333 (4.4%) are of two or more races, and for the remaining 216 (2.8%) students, race is undeclared/unknown.  Among CSU's total enrollment of 7,637, Georgia residents account for 6,513. Of the 944 CSU students from other U.S. states and territories, 386 are paying tuition while the remaining 558 have their tuition waived. Among CSU's 180 international students, 52 are paying tuition while 158 have their tuition waived. Among all 7,637 CSU students, 3,055 are male and 4,582 are female. The average age of CSU undergraduates is 23.8 years, while that for CSU graduate students is 35.4 years. CSU currently enrolls 1,094 non-traditional undergraduate students, while 48 CSU students receive a senior citizen waiver.

Jung Exploring Influence of Confucianism on Luxury Brand Performance in China, Japan and South Korea

Turner College Grad Publishes Academic Study on Corporate Culture and Strategy

Former Turner College student Tamara Todorova , now an associate professor of economics at American University in Bulgaria (AUB), recently published a study on corporate culture and strategy. Todorova earned an MBA from the Turner College in 1996 and then went on to earn a doctorate in international economics from the University of Economics - Varna in 2001. She has been on the faculty at AUB since August of 2000. Todorova's study, which appears in the current issue of the International Journal of Business Performance Management , investigates how corporate culture helps to economize on the transaction costs of internal organization. As she explains, the dimensions of corporate culture that assist in this task include increasing trust and reducing intrafirm opportunism. Todorova's study demonstrates that setting common goals and a common direction reduces the sizeable costs of internal organization.
