Miller Gurski, Lyman and Wilson Named to 2023 GeorgiaFirst Young GameChangers Cohort

A recent entry to Turner Business reported that Turner College alum Rachael Lambert, who earned an MBA from CSU, was selected to the 2023 GeorgiaForward Young GameChangers Cohort.  As reported earlier, Young Gamechangers is a unique leadership action program hosted by GeorgiaForward, a non-profit organization administered by the Georgia Municipal Association, that brings professionals from across the state to work on the persistent challenges of one Georgia community.  Since that entry, Turner Business has learned that three additional Turner College graduates are joining Lambert on the 2023 GeorgiaForward Young GameChangers Cohort.  They are Samantha Miller GurskiHayley Lyman and Cortney Wilson.  

On its website, GeorgiaForward notes that in her current role as Director of CSU’s Department of Continuing & Professional Education (CPE), Miller Gurski and a talented team actively serve the university and the Chattahoochee Valley community by offering richly varied programs, such as the English Language Institute, Activ8 youth programs, adult professional development certificates and personal enrichment programming, CSU Youth Dance Conservatory, CSU Testing Center/Prometric Testing Center, Empowered Youth of CSU, and more.  Lyman is a licensed real estate broker in Georgia and currently works as a Commercial Sales and Leasing advisor with Coldwell Banker Commercial – Kennon, Parker, Duncan, & Davis. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from CSU’s Turner College in 2012, where she was named the top marketing student.  Lastly,Wilson, who serves CSU as Director of William B. Turner Center for Servant Leadership, explained to GeorgiaForward, “I love the Columbus community, and I am adamant that our community’s great resource is its people.  The people of Columbus have accomplished incredible feats in many sectors and will continue to do so as long as there are opportunities for growth in the places where we live, work, and play.  I want to be a part of initiatives in our community that positively impact the people and places in Columbus.  l am excited to be a part of this group that will do just that.”  Both Miller Gurski and Wilson are graduates of the Turner College’s graduate program in organizational leadership.

Turner College Grad Publishes Academic Study on Corporate Culture and Strategy

Former Turner College student Tamara Todorova , now an associate professor of economics at American University in Bulgaria (AUB), recently published a study on corporate culture and strategy. Todorova earned an MBA from the Turner College in 1996 and then went on to earn a doctorate in international economics from the University of Economics - Varna in 2001. She has been on the faculty at AUB since August of 2000. Todorova's study, which appears in the current issue of the International Journal of Business Performance Management , investigates how corporate culture helps to economize on the transaction costs of internal organization. As she explains, the dimensions of corporate culture that assist in this task include increasing trust and reducing intrafirm opportunism. Todorova's study demonstrates that setting common goals and a common direction reduces the sizeable costs of internal organization. Hammer joins Turner College Finance Faculty

The Turner College's Department of Accounting and Finance welcomes Melissa Ingle Hammer , who joins the group as an adjunct faculty in finance.  Hammer graduated from the Turner College in 2005, after earning a BBA in finance. She later went on to earn an MBA from Auburn University, a Specialist Certificate in Conduct Risk from the University of Manchester, a Certificate in Team Culture from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Certificate in Executive Presence from Cornell University. Hammer is the SVP of Fair Lending Product Management with RiskExec at Asurity. She previously worked as Compliance Manager of Fair Lending at Synovus, a senior regulatory consultant with Wolters Kluwer, and as VP of Compliance at TD. This semester Hammer will be teaching FINC 3135, Financial Institutions and Technologies. Turner Business  welcomes Melissa and wishes her a great first semester in the Turner College.
