Turner College Confers more than 200 Degrees and Certificates at Fall 2022 Commencement Ceremony

Columbus State University held its 124th Commencement ceremonies on December 9, 2022, and the Turner College of Business conferred 59 graduate degrees and certificates along with 142 undergraduate degrees and certificates.  Among the graduate degrees conferred, 12 were MBA degrees and 30 were M.S. degrees in organizational leadership.  Another 12 of the Turner College’s graduate degrees were M.S. degrees in applied computer science, while the remaining five graduate degrees and certificates were awarded to students in cybersecurity management.  Among the undergraduate degrees and certificates, 37 were BBA degrees in general business.  The areas of accounting, finance, management, management information systems and marketing accounted, respectively, for another nine, 10, 13, six and 17 BBA degrees conferred.  The TSYS School of Computer Science conferred 25 B.S. degrees, including, respectively, 18 in computer science and seven in information technology.  The TSYS School also awarded 10 nexus degrees in cybersecurity of fin tech along with 13 certificates, including 10 in cybersecurity of fin tech, two in cybersecurity and one in web development.

Graduating summa cum laude, with GPAs ranging from 3.80 to 4.00, were Hannah Anderson (marketing), Katie Cummings (accounting), Grace Davin (marketing), Jorge Flores (accounting), Britany Moore (marketing), Jacob Simms (finance) and Jordan Slonaker (computer science).  Graduating magna cum laude, with GPAs ranging from 3.60 to 3.79, were Tamara Allen (management), Gillian Braun (information technology), Cameron Brundidge (general business), Adan Clark (MIS), Jordyn Denard (accounting), Austin Kuhlenberg (marketing), Stephen Lee (computer science) and Francesca Long (accounting).  Graduating cum laude, with GPAs between 3.40 and 3.59, were Valentina Abrile (general business), Jacob Bolar (computer science), William Daffin (general business), Elizabeth Gemes (general business), Byron Jackson (information technology), Nicholas Kimmel (computer science), Kiera King (MIS), Manav Kotharia (finance), Nadeje Marchio (general business), Katelyn Mullins (management), Trishal Ravula (computer science), Maria Revert (management), Arfath Shaik (computer science), Evelyn Thomas-Long (general business) and Roosevelt Trammell III (general business).  Lastly, John Adams, who received a nexus degree in cybersecurity of fin tech, graduated with high honors.

Jung Exploring Influence of Confucianism on Luxury Brand Performance in China, Japan and South Korea

In a recent chat with Turner Business , Turner College professor of marketing Sungwoo Jung made the point that luxury brands are gaining the degree of influence in many developing countries that they enjoy now in developed countries.  He has been pondering this issue as part of his international marketing research program, which typically focuses on advertising, pioneering advantages and multi-cultural analysis.  Currently, Jung is concentrating his energies on a cross-cultural analysis of brand equity that highlights luxury brands’ performance.  His research finds that China, Japan and South Korea have each seen an increase in market share for luxury brands in recent years.  As Jung explained to Turner Business , “These three countries share a common philosophical background – Confucianism.”  With that point in mind, Jung and his coauthors are currently engaged in an investigation of how Confucianism influences consumer behavior in these three Asian countries, and how that behavior im

Turner College Grad Publishes Academic Study on Corporate Culture and Strategy

Former Turner College student Tamara Todorova , now an associate professor of economics at American University in Bulgaria (AUB), recently published a study on corporate culture and strategy. Todorova earned an MBA from the Turner College in 1996 and then went on to earn a doctorate in international economics from the University of Economics - Varna in 2001. She has been on the faculty at AUB since August of 2000. Todorova's study, which appears in the current issue of the International Journal of Business Performance Management , investigates how corporate culture helps to economize on the transaction costs of internal organization. As she explains, the dimensions of corporate culture that assist in this task include increasing trust and reducing intrafirm opportunism. Todorova's study demonstrates that setting common goals and a common direction reduces the sizeable costs of internal organization.
