New research by the Director of the Turner College's Center for Economic Education, Frank Mixon , and Kamal Upadhyaya of the University of New Haven, provides a citations-based ranking of Black academic economists in the U.S. Based on citations data compiled using the Google Scholar Profile feature in the Publish or Perish open-source software package, the study identifies the top 230 Black academic economists. This group has garnered almost 300,000 citations, with a  mean of 1,269 and a standard deviation of 3,200.   The median and mode number of citations for this group are 213 and 16, respectively.  The study, which is set to published in a future issue of the Review of Black Political Economy , reports that Caroline Hoxby,  the  Scott and Donya Bommer Professor  at Stanford University ranks first with 25,228 citations.  Hoxby is followed by Cecelia Rouse, the Katzman and Ernst Professor  at Princeton University, with 17,397 citations. Currently a technical project manager with over 20 years of experience in information technology, TSYS School graduate Jay Knape has demonstrated progressive responsibility working in analytical and collaborative efforts for the development, execution, and management of technical strategic plans. After graduating in 1998 from Howard Payne University with a bachelor's degree in communications, Jay took a position as multimedia computer programmer with Gulliver Richie Associates in Norcross, Georgia. There he  produced Web-based and CD-ROM multimedia training modules for varied businesses and industries, using Authorware. Two years later, Jay moved to Quisic - Arthur Anderson Virtual Learning Network in Atlanta, where he held the position of custom solutions programmer. Turner College associate professor of management Phil Bryant recently surpassed 2,500 career Google Scholar citations. Additionally, Google Scholar reports that his i 10-index is equal to 13, meaning that Bryant has published 13 studies that have each garnered at least 10 citations. Google Scholar also reports two additional metrics. One of these is a scholar’s h -index, which is the largest number, h , of a scholar’s publications that have each garnered at least h citations. Bryant’s h -index is 11, meaning that his 11 most-cited studies have each generated at least 11 citations. Another Google Scholar metric is a scholar’s g -index, which is the largest number, g , of a scholar’s publications that have collectively garnered at least  g 2  citations. Columbus CEO recently spoke with Patrick Aiken, the Director of the TSYS Center for Cybersecurity, about the Turner College's academic programs in cybersecurity. Aiken spotlighted the Nexus programs, emphasizing that graduates earn four important industry certifications during their studies. These certifications are highly marketable, and graduates have secured employment with Global Payments, Aflac, Synovus and other companies that benefit from the expertise gained by these students. The CSU Department of Athletics had four student-athletes graduate in the Turner College's Fall Class of 2023 commencement ceremonies on Thursday, Dec. 7 and Friday, Dec. 8. Commencement was held in the Frank G. Lumpkin, Jr. Center on CSU's Main Campus.  The Turner College graduates of CSU Athletics include four student-athletes from four sports: cross country/track & field, men's basketball, tennis and women's soccer. Turner Business congratulates Mariana Ramirez on earning a BBA in general business at last week's Turner College graduation ceremony. Mariana is a native of Pereira, Colombia, and as of last week a graduate student member CSU's varsity tennis team. Last year Mariana posted a 12-6 overall singles record, and a 6-1 record in Peach Belt Conference competition, playing in the #1 singles position. Mariana also posted a 9-1 doubles record playing in the #1 doubles position with Sara Ramirez. Last season Mariana was named to the All-Peach Belt Conference First Team in doubles, as well as the All-Peach Belt Conference Second Team in singles. Prior to joining CSU's team, she competed for Eastern Arizona College. Mariana will begin pursuing an MBA from the Turner College in the spring semester.  Turner Business wishes Mariana the best of luck in both her academics and athletics pursuits going forward.
