Turner College News & Notes: September 2, 2026

The TSYS School's cybersecurity Nexus students recently received a visit from Jay Coull, who met with them in the Synovus Center Theater to share helpful tips and advice. Coull graduated from the Turner College in 1998 with a BBA in management. Now he works as the Director of Security Automation & SIEM Engineering for Global Payments. Prior to his year-and-one-half stint at Global Payments, Coull spent 12 years with Aflac, most recently as Senior Manager of Security Administration.
The Turner College's Awards & Scholarships Committee is now accepting nominations for CSU's 2027 faculty awards. The list of awards includes the (1) CSU Teaching Excellence Award, (2) CSU Faculty Service Award, (3) CSU Faculty Research & Scholarship Award, (4) CSU Excellence in Online Teaching Award, (5) CSU Scholarship of Teaching & Learning Award, (6) CSU Teaching Innovation Award, and (7) CSU Chappell Graduate Faculty Award. If you wish to either self-nominate or nominate a colleague, please forward the information to Mark James or Frank Mixon. Remember that Yesem Peker, Wen Shi and Charles Boster are ineligible for awards (1), (6) and (7), respectively, because they won these awards in 2026.
The CSU community survey regarding the search for a new Turner College dean is buried in the Clock Tower eNewsletter dated September 2026 that was e-mailed to CSU faculty and staff at 10:45am on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. If interested, please make sure to complete the survey and submit it by 5:00pm on Friday, September 4, 2026. The search will begin in about two weeks, and last through the end of October (or possibly into early November). The survey can be found in the "Announcements" portion of the eNewsletter. 
Lastly, the stacked bar chart to the left provides a snapshot of the Turner College's (ongoing) scholarly contributions portfolio at approximately the halfway point in the next AACSB reaffirmation process. On the vertical axis are the journal quality categories used by the Turner College, while the journal publication counts run along the horizontal. Output by each of the College's two business-related departments is color coded. Regular followers of Turner Business have noticed that publication activity across the business disciplines was relatively high during August. Hopefully, this will continue further into fall semester. Prior posts have noted that the organization is behind schedule based on the output during the previous two AACSB reaffirmation cycles. The data underlying the stacked bar chart above appear below.

ABDC Releases 2025 Journal Review, Now Ranks Journal Edited by Phil Bryant

The long-awaited journal review being conducted by the Australian Business Deans Council (ABDC) has been released and there are a number of news items that relate to faculty in the Turner College. One of these is the ABDC's decision to now include  Compensation and Benefits Review in its journal rankings. This is big news for the Turner College as its editor, Phil Bryant , is a professor of management in the Turner College. The ABDC is proposing that the journal enter its system for the first time as a C-rated journal. Acting Turner College Dean Tesa Leonce sits on the journal's editorial board, while Turner College management professor Mark James has guest-edited an issue of the journal. Deborah Kidder's Tenure as Dean of the Turner College Set to End on December 12th

The Turner College community was informed this morning that Deborah Kidder 's tenure as Dean of the organization is set to end on December 12, 2025. An e-mail communication to Turner College faculty from CSU Provost & Executive Vice President Dustin Anderson states, " I am writing to share that Dr. Deborah Kidder will be stepping down as Dean of the Turner College of Business & Technology, effective December 12, 2025.
