The long-awaited journal review being conducted by the Australian Business Deans Council (ABDC) has been released and there are a number of news items that relate to faculty in the Turner College. Some of these pertain to proposed changes to the ratings of journals that have published research by various Turner College faculty. First, it is proposing that the journal Administrative Sciences be added to the ranking as a C-rated journal. Turner College economist Frank Mixon has a 2016 publication on farmer-entrepreneurs and agricultural innovation in this journal that has to date garnered 20 Google Scholar citations. Second, and on the negative side, the group is planning to downgrade the American Business Review from an A-rated journal to a B-rated journal. Mixon has three papers published in this journal, while Turner College management professor Kevin Hurt published a servant leadership study there in 2024. Additionally, Turner College management professor Kirk Heriot has publications there in both 1999 and 2001. Third, the group is proposing an upgrade of Human Resource Management Journal from an A rating to an A+ rating. This rating now matches the rating given this outlet by the Chartered Association of Business Schools, which is another rating services used by the Turner College. Mixon has a 2026 publication here, so the A-rating from CABS is only being bolstered by this new rating from ABDC.
Fourth, ABDC is proposing an upgrade of the Journal of Leadership & Organizational Studies from a B rating to an A rating. This is great news for Hurt, who has a 2015 publication there on perceived strategic decision effectiveness that has garnered 45 Google Scholar citations. Fifth, the ABDC plans to upgrade the Journal of Small Business & Entrepreneurship from a C rating to a B rating. This is good news for Turner College management professor Mark James, who has a 2020 study on entrepreneurship as a career choice published there that has garnered a very impressive 212 Google Scholar citations. Sixth, and big news for Heriot, the ABDC will be upgrading the Journal of Supply Chain Management from an A rating to an A+ rating. Heriot has a publication in a 2001 issue of this journal that has to date garnered 57 Google Scholar citations. He also has a 1993 paper published there, when the journal's title was International Journal of Purchasing and Materials Management, that has garnered 90 Google Scholar citations. This proposed change will give Heriot his first two A+-rated publications. Seventh, an upgrade from A to A+ is also in store for Labour Economics. Mixon's 1997 publication here on team production in economics, which has to date garnered 17 Google Scholar citations, will become his 10th career A+-rated publication. Eight, the addition of Compensation & Benefits Review to the ABDC's system as a new C-rated journal benefits a number of Turner College faculty who have published there. This list includes Mixon, Acting Turner College Dean Tesa Leonce, associate professor of management Laurence Marsh, associate professor of marketing Ed O'Donnell, and management professor Phil Bryant.
