CSU's Academic Center for Tutoring & Coaching Recognizes Valuable Service Provided by Shaneka Thrash
CSU's Academic Center for Tutoring & Coaching recently recognized Shaneka Thrash, an exceptional Academic Success Coach, whose dedication and student-centered approach continue to make a meaningful impact within Turner College. Shaneka holds a Bachelor of Arts in psychology with a minor in criminology and a Master of Education in Professional counseling – college student affairs, both from the University of West Georgia. She currently supports students majoring in accounting, finance, and general business, offering guidance grounded in compassion, insight, and intentionality. Shaneka’s advising philosophy centers on understanding each student’s starting point and their personal “why”—why they chose CSU, their major, and their goals. By gaining this deeper perspective, she tailors her support to strengthen students’ independence, mindset, and confidence in making decisions that move them toward success. One piece of advice Shaneka often shares with her students is simple yet powerful: “Never leave class with an unanswered question.” She also encourages all students to take advantage of academic coaching, a resource she believes can transform both academic and personal growth. When asked what she enjoys most about her role, Shaneka is quick to highlight the students themselves—learning their stories, hearing their dreams, and walking alongside them through both challenges and triumphs.
