Website for the Turner College's New Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation Now Live

The webpage for the Turner College's new Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation is now live. The link to it is found on the Turner College's main webpage, as shown below, where webpages for three of the College's Centers are accessible below the links for webpages concerning the College's three academic units.


Clicking the link takes one to the Center's webpage, where at the top its Mission and Vision are provided. The portion of the page is shown below.


As the insert above indicates, the Center's Mission ". . . is to teach, encourage, and support students seeking to start new business ventures." The stated Vision of the Center ". . . is to become the organization that students, faculty, and staff at Columbus State University and residents of the Chattahoochee region may receive assistance with their efforts to start and manage new business ventures." Next, under the Student Services heading the webpage indicates that full- and part-time students seeking to start new business, as well as students who are interested in the Business Pitch Competition, may directly seek assistance from the Center through a portal to a request form. That portion of the webpage is shown below. 


Next up is a Community Resources heading, where live links to local resources are provided. As shown below, these links take visitors to either the Columbus office of the Georgia Small Business Development Center, SCORE, or StartUP Columbus.


As shown below, the next piece of the webpage includes the Business Pitch Competition heading. Here the visitor is provided some information about the Center's annual business pitch competition, which is held in the spring. There is also a live link to a separate Business Pitch Competition Webpage that has additional details about the competition. Stay connected to Turner Business for more on this in the future.


At the bottom of the webpage are contact and other details. This portion of the webpage is shown below.


As indicated above, the Center's Advisory Board currently consists of Steve Taylor and Alvin "Cav" Cavalier. Also, and Turner Business may be breaking some news here, Turner College management professor Kirk Heriot is listed as the Center's Interim Director. Stay connected to Turner Business for more about the future transition from Heriot to a permanent director. Lastly, an indication that the Center will in the future have a student assistant, the Center's e-mail address, and a live link to a map showing the location of the Center on CSU's main campus are provided at the bottom of the new webpage.

New Butler Center Report Identifies Employment Gaps in the Columbus Area

Officials in the Turner College's Butler Center for Research and Economic Development recently put the finishing touches on an extensive report on trends in educational programs and occupations in the Columbus area. The report also includes data on business and technology trends.  According to Fady Mansour , Director of the Butler Center, there are several key takeaways from the report regarding 10 occupational gaps that currently exist in the Columbus area. First,  software development occupation exhibits the biggest labor shortage, with the report adding that the TSYS School has a bachelor's degree program in information technology along with a new AI track for the bachelor's degree in computer science, both of which can qualify students for this occupation. TSYS School, Jianhua Yang, Lixin Wang Each among Top Five in the World

New research by computer scientists in the School of Information Technology at Universiti Utara Malaysia that ranks institutions and individuals on the basis of scholarship in the area of stepping-stone attacks heaps praise on the Turner College’s TSYS School of Computer Science and two of its faculty – Jianhua Yang and Lixin Wang .   The article, published in the April 2023 issue of the International Journal of Research in Engineering and Science , provides a bibliometric analysis of both publication and citation data from 2000 to September of 2022 related to research on stepping-stone intrusion.   Among several results, it reports that Columbus State University ranks second worldwide, trailing only the University of Houston, using total publications on the subject as the basis of comparison.   A number of other U.S. institutions appear in the top 10, including third-ranked North Carolina State University, fourth-ranked University of Illinois, sixth-ranked Iowa State U...
