At a recent reception, the CSU Office of Student Life & Development honored registered student organizations and their leaders for their dedication and service to the university and the community. “Student organizations and campus engagement programs allow Columbus State students to create community and find their people,” said Melissa Dempsey, assistant dean of students for student engagement. “Both allow students to connect with others who share their same interests and passions, as well as gain valuable leadership skills, experience through volunteerism and a broad network through social and community programs.” The Turner College and TSYS School were well represented at the reception, as the Emerging Leader of the Year Award went to Bryan Lucas, a junior majoring in business management with a concentration in human resources. Bryan is involved in multiple campus activities, including the Presidential Envoys, CHISPA, Student Activities Council, Residence Life and the Orientation Team. In the Greek Life category, the Fraternity Member of the Year Award went to Travis Fredick of Kappa Sigma, a senior management major, while the Outstanding Fraternity President Award went to Tyler Brown of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., a senior majoring in cybersecurity. Lastly, the Living Your Values Award went to Nav Singh of Kappa Sigma fraternity, a junior business administration major. The Living Your Values Award is presented to fraternity and sorority members who exemplify their chapter’s values through their everyday actions. As part of the Division of Student Affairs, the Office of Student Life & Development serves the entire student body. It coordinates the work of more than 90 active registered student organizations and student boards that collectively include 130-plus student leaders, 500-plus annual organization-hosted campus events, and 100-plus campus events planned directly by the office.
The long-awaited journal review being conducted by the Australian Business Deans Council (ABDC) has been released and there are a number of news items that relate to faculty in the Turner College. One of these is the ABDC's decision to now include Compensation and Benefits Review in its journal rankings. This is big news for the Turner College as its editor, Phil Bryant , is a professor of management in the Turner College. The ABDC is proposing that the journal enter its system for the first time as a C-rated journal. Acting Turner College Dean Tesa Leonce sits on the journal's editorial board, while Turner College management professor Mark James has guest-edited an issue of the journal.
