A recent series here at Turner Business highlighted the A-level journal publications produced by faculty members in the TSYS School and Turner College. As that series showed, since the beginning of 2021 our faculty have combined to produce 60 A-level journal publications. A breakdown of this productivity by academic discipline appears in the table at the end of this post. Among the few faculty to have contributed to the above total on multiple occasions is Yoon Lee, who has accounted for three of these A-level publications. Turner Business recently spoke with Lee about his research endeavors, and some of that conversation is inserted below.
TB: As a recent series here at Turner Business revealed, you are among the few faculty in the Turner College who has published in multiple A-level journals since 2021. What drives your desire to explore research topics and to publish in high-quality journals?
YL: I believe that a university faculty member is both a researcher and a teacher. As an MIS researcher, I’m particularly interested in identifying and applying emerging IT technologies to solve real-world business problems and enhance business practices. This focus on practical, cutting-edge solutions not only drives my research agenda but also directly influences my teaching. By incorporating the latest research findings into the classroom, I ensure that students are exposed to the most current ideas and technologies, preparing them to excel in an ever-evolving business landscape.
TB: Do you prefer working alone, or with co-authors?
YL: I prefer collaborating with co-authors. Even if I come up with an initial idea, working together allows us to refine and expand upon it. Collaboration brings diverse perspectives and combines different skill sets. I believe that all of them help produce more rigorous and impactful research.
TB: What research topics are you currently working on?
YL: I’m currently working on projects related to business process automation and data analytics. Specifically, I’m conducting research on automated dynamic business process scheduling, developing solutions for class imbalance, and analyzing baseball players’ salary data.
Editor's Note: The recent series referred to at the top of this post incorrectly credited Professor Lee with 2 A-level publications when he actually has 3 such publications since 2021. We missed his 2022 publication in Information Systems Frontiers. Thus, we should have credited him with 2 publications in this journal to go along with his paper in the International Journal of Production Economics.
