Turner College alum Bethany Yandell is beginning the new year in a new position, Director of Communications & Marketing for the College of Communication & Information at the University of Tennessee. In doing so, Bethany returns to the institution where from 2014 to 2022 she worked in communications and public relations, most recently with the UT Cancer Center. She joins UT this time from Ackermann Marketing & PR, where she worked as Senior Account Executive. Speaking on this experience, Bethany stated, "I would be remiss to not mention how much my time at Ackermann Marketing & PR has meant to me. The last two and a half years have allowed me to practice strategic communications for brands across the region that positioned me for the next step in my career in ways I couldn't have imagined." Bethany graduated from UT in 2008, earning an undergraduate degree in communications and public relations. In 2010, she joined the Turner College as Recruitment Coordinator, a position she held until mid-2013. During this period Bethany earned an M.S. in organizational leadership from the Turner College. During her studies in the Turner College, she was inducted into both the Phi Kappa Phi and Beta Gamma Sigma honor societies. After departing Columbus, Bethany spent a brief period as the Recruiting and Retention Coordinator for the College of Nursing at Augusta University. Officials in the Turner College's Butler Center for Research and Economic Development recently put the finishing touches on an extensive report on trends in educational programs and occupations in the Columbus area. The report also includes data on business and technology trends. According to Fady Mansour , Director of the Butler Center, there are several key takeaways from the report regarding 10 occupational gaps that currently exist in the Columbus area. First, software development occupation exhibits the biggest labor shortage, with the report adding that the TSYS School has a bachelor's degree program in information technology along with a new AI track for the bachelor's degree in computer science, both of which can qualify students for this occupation. Other educational programs are in demand, such as computer programming and cloud computing. Second, there is a gap of 30 employees per year in general and operations management.
