The Turner College management information systems professor Jennifer Pitts was recently elected to serve a two-year (2025-2026) term on the board of directors of the Project Management Institute. Pitts joins the board as a Director-at-Large along with other new members, Aundrea Madden and William Lindsey. The Columbus Georgia Chapter of the Project Management Institute (PMI) is recognized as a dynamic organization of professional project managers dedicated to serving the business and education of its area of operation through the advancement of project management. The Chapter provides a forum for professional project managers to promote the principles and mission of the PMI through networking with other project managers, sharing project experiences, providing and receiving training, and supporting project managers in their certification efforts. The Chapter area of operation includes the city of Columbus, GA, and surrounding areas. LaGrange, GA, borders the area to the north, Montgomery, AL, to the west, Warner Robins, GA, to the east and Albany, GA, to the south. In its announcement of new board members, PMI noted, "Our Chapter will continue to serve its members through the strong leadership of these representatives. The new year, 2025, is shaping up to be a good year - engage in your chapter for professional development, network expansion and community involvement."
Officials in the Turner College's Butler Center for Research and Economic Development recently put the finishing touches on an extensive report on trends in educational programs and occupations in the Columbus area. The report also includes data on business and technology trends. According to Fady Mansour , Director of the Butler Center, there are several key takeaways from the report regarding 10 occupational gaps that currently exist in the Columbus area. First, software development occupation exhibits the biggest labor shortage, with the report adding that the TSYS School has a bachelor's degree program in information technology along with a new AI track for the bachelor's degree in computer science, both of which can qualify students for this occupation.
