Turner College grad Michael Porter was recently promoted to Director of Facilities Support at Aflac. Porter began his 18-year tenure with Aflac in June of 2006 as an operations manager. Since then, he has been promoted within the organization at either two- or three-year intervals. In 2008, Michael was promoted to Program Coordinator in Human Resources. Three years later, in 2011, he rose to Project Coordinator in Corporate Services, and two years after that he ascended to Project Coordinator in the Office of the General Counsel. Over the next several years, Michael earned various other promotions at Aflac, bringing him to his new position in the company, where he will oversee and manage facilities, corporate office space design and planning, and corporate real estate. In the midst of his rise within the company, Michael earned a BBA in marketing from the Turner College. The educational training he received not only contributed to his continued professional success, the servant leadership emphasis in the Turner College also likely shaped Michael's views on volunteerism. Currently, Michael serves on the Partners in Education Board of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, he is a regular member of the Columbus Consolidated Government's Community Development Advisory Council and an ex officio member of the Board of Trustees of St. Francis Hospital. Officials in the Turner College's Butler Center for Research and Economic Development recently put the finishing touches on an extensive report on trends in educational programs and occupations in the Columbus area. The report also includes data on business and technology trends. According to Fady Mansour , Director of the Butler Center, there are several key takeaways from the report regarding 10 occupational gaps that currently exist in the Columbus area. First, software development occupation exhibits the biggest labor shortage, with the report adding that the TSYS School has a bachelor's degree program in information technology along with a new AI track for the bachelor's degree in computer science, both of which can qualify students for this occupation.
