The Columbus Consolidated Government recently voted to approve a $50 million renovation to Golden Park as part of a plan to relocate the Atlanta Braves AA team from Pearl, Mississippi, to Columbus, Georgia, after the 2024 season. As reported by Turner College Dean Deb Kidder in her recent Turner Tuesday podcast, the Director of the Turner College's Butler Center for Business and Economic Research, Fady Mansour, was instrumental in the plan's approval. Mansour authored the economic impact study for the project, which indicated that the plan would boost economic activity in the greater Columbus area by $350 million. According to Columbus Mayor Skip Henderson, “This is an exciting day for Columbus and the result of hard work and dedication from a number of parties invested in the future of our community . . . This project, anchored by the return of professional, affiliated baseball to Columbus, will have a transformative impact on not only our downtown area but the lives of our residents as well.”
Officials in the Turner College's Butler Center for Research and Economic Development recently put the finishing touches on an extensive report on trends in educational programs and occupations in the Columbus area. The report also includes data on business and technology trends. According to Fady Mansour , Director of the Butler Center, there are several key takeaways from the report regarding 10 occupational gaps that currently exist in the Columbus area. First, software development occupation exhibits the biggest labor shortage, with the report adding that the TSYS School has a bachelor's degree program in information technology along with a new AI track for the bachelor's degree in computer science, both of which can qualify students for this occupation.
