The Turner College announced today that computer science professor Rania Hodhod will be the next Chair of the TSYS School of Computer Science, effective January 1, 2024. As explained by Turner College Dean Deb Kidder, "Dr. Hodhod has made a significant and positive impact on our institution since she joined in 2013. Due to her impressive record, she was granted promotion to professor last year. In addition, she already has administrative experience, having served as the assistant chair from 2016 until she transitioned in 2022 to the Edwin and Florette Rothschild Endowed Chair in Leadership." During her time in the TSYS School, Hodhod has earned a number of accolodes, including the CSU Service Award (2023), Office of Diversity Outstanding Faculty/Staff Award (2023), CSU Chapel Graduate Award (2022), Turner College Graduate Teaching Award (2021), Faculty Mentoring Award from the Mathematics and Computer Sciences Division of the Council on Undergraduate Research (2021), Outstanding Faculty in International Education, Delta Nu Chapter, Phi Beta Delta Honor Society (2020), CSU International Educator of the Year (2020), CSU Teaching Excellence Award (2019), CSU Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Award (2017), Recognition of Excellence: Graduate Faculty Award (2015), and the Outstanding Teacher of Writing Award (2014-2015).
She has also received other recognitions, including being a USG Chancellor's Learning Scholar (2018-2020), a member of the Phi Beta Delta Honor Society for International Scholars (2018), a Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society Member (2016), a LEAD CSU Fellowship recipient (2016), a finalist for the CSU Faculty Research and Scholarships Award (2016), a Faculty Writing Fellowship recipient (2015 & 2021), and the Outstanding Teacher of Writing Award (2014-2015). Hodhod holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of York in England. She has published 12 peer-reviewed journal articles, three book chapters, and seven conference papers in the past three years. She has secured two state-level Text Transformation Grants and two CSU Innovation in Scholarship and Research. She has supervised over sixty undergraduate students for extracurricular projects and fifteen graduate students for their theses, while also acting as an academic mentor for independent studies and internships. "Dr. Hodhod is known for her commitment to interdisciplinary research, collaborating on fifteen projects with CSU faculty from various departments since joining CSU. Her impressive accomplishments make her well-qualified to fill this important leadership position," Kidder added. Hodhod will succeed Shamim Khan in this position.
