TSYS School’s Abid has Sights Set High

Turner Business recent had the opportunity to chat with Riduan Abid, an associate professor of computer science in the Turner College’s TSYS School of Computer Science.  A Fulbright Research Scholar, Abid joined the TSYS School faculty in January of 2022 from a faculty position at Alakhawayn University in Morocco.  In announcing his arrival at that time, Turner Business noted that he earned a doctorate in computer science from Auburn University, after which he served on the faculties at Purdue University and the University of Houston.  During our recent chat, we mentioned to Abid that he was closing in on 1,000 Google Scholar citations, and we asked what he thought about that fact.  His reply was straightforward and bold, “I’m looking forward to closing the 1,000 citations milestone this year, and increasing the pace after joining CSU.”  This is the type of answer that the TSYS School’s stakeholders – current students, alumni, private sector supporters, etc. – should be excited to hear because it indicates that the future of the organization is bright, and investments in it will be worthwhile.  The first part of Abid’s statement also rings true, as a recent check of his Google Scholar citations count reveals that he currently sits at 855 total citations, with 37 of these arriving during the first 2.5 months of 2023.  Needing only 145 more citations, and having garnered 194 during 2022, he’s on pace hit the milestone before year’s end.  Although it is Abid’s prior research that will carry him over the milestone, we also asked him what he is currently working on in terms of research.  He indicated that he is working on projects related to Cloud computing, which is the practice of using a network of remote servers hosted on the internet to store, manage, and process data, rather than a local server or a personal computer.  Abid also stated that he has other projects in the works related to data analytics, which involves the extraction of information from raw data using specialized computer systems.  Stay tuned to Turner Business for updates on the research being done by Abid and other faculty in the Turner College.

Jung Exploring Influence of Confucianism on Luxury Brand Performance in China, Japan and South Korea

In a recent chat with Turner Business , Turner College professor of marketing Sungwoo Jung made the point that luxury brands are gaining the degree of influence in many developing countries that they enjoy now in developed countries.  He has been pondering this issue as part of his international marketing research program, which typically focuses on advertising, pioneering advantages and multi-cultural analysis.  Currently, Jung is concentrating his energies on a cross-cultural analysis of brand equity that highlights luxury brands’ performance.  His research finds that China, Japan and South Korea have each seen an increase in market share for luxury brands in recent years.  As Jung explained to Turner Business , “These three countries share a common philosophical background – Confucianism.”  With that point in mind, Jung and his coauthors are currently engaged in an investigation of how Confucianism influences consumer behavior in these three Asian countries, and how that behavior im

Turner College Grad Publishes Academic Study on Corporate Culture and Strategy
