Crupi to Speak to CSU Faculty on Future of Higher Ed

Interim CSU President John Fuchko recently announced that Jim Crupi, President and Founder of Strategic Leadership Solutions, will be speaking to CSU faculty on March 16, 2023, about the forces shaping the future, their implications for American society and higher education and the challenge of educating the next generation of students who are being raised in the digital global economy.  Crupi, a noted futurist, scholar, and leader, has served as a consultant to the Office of the President of United States, as well as to notable companies such as Coca-Cola, AT&T, Intel, IBM, Siemens, and Hewlett Packard, among many others.  He has also appeared on CNN, Fox Business Network with Neil Cavuto, and National Public Radio.  “CSU has a proud history of embracing a culture of innovation and partnership while being responsive to shifting trends and workforce needs. Jim’s leadership style is to inspire people to think differently about how to solve problems and create new opportunities for success,” said Fuchko in announcing the event.  “He will provide realistic insight on how individuals and organizations must think and lead when responding to complex changes in the marketplace as well as generate ideas and frameworks that help us reexamine and strengthen our approach to academic planning as we strategically identify new academic degree programs and initiatives that are congruent with our institutional mission and align with our current and future workforce and community needs,” Fuchko continued.  Faculty attending the two-hour event will be able to discuss how CSU selects new academic degree programs to create or enhance how those programs could be structured and delivered.  “This work will be a transparent and open process and [faculty] feedback is welcomed. [Faculty] willingness to engage while we look to the future with hope and purpose is greatly appreciated,” Fuchko concluded.

In terms of educational background, Crupi earned an undergraduate degree from the University of North Georgia, a master’s degree from the University of Southern California, and a doctorate from the University of Florida.  He also completed advanced work at the London Business School, Oxford University, and the International Management Institute in Geneva.  Prior to his current consulting work, he served as a company commander and instructor at the elite Army Ranger School.  He currently serves as a board member of Global Network Foundation, Middle East Leadership Academy, and the University of North Georgia.

New Butler Center Report Identifies Employment Gaps in the Columbus Area

Officials in the Turner College's Butler Center for Research and Economic Development recently put the finishing touches on an extensive report on trends in educational programs and occupations in the Columbus area. The report also includes data on business and technology trends.  According to Fady Mansour , Director of the Butler Center, there are several key takeaways from the report regarding 10 occupational gaps that currently exist in the Columbus area. First,  software development occupation exhibits the biggest labor shortage, with the report adding that the TSYS School has a bachelor's degree program in information technology along with a new AI track for the bachelor's degree in computer science, both of which can qualify students for this occupation. TSYS School, Jianhua Yang, Lixin Wang Each among Top Five in the World

New research by computer scientists in the School of Information Technology at Universiti Utara Malaysia that ranks institutions and individuals on the basis of scholarship in the area of stepping-stone attacks heaps praise on the Turner College’s TSYS School of Computer Science and two of its faculty – Jianhua Yang and Lixin Wang .   The article, published in the April 2023 issue of the International Journal of Research in Engineering and Science , provides a bibliometric analysis of both publication and citation data from 2000 to September of 2022 related to research on stepping-stone intrusion.   Among several results, it reports that Columbus State University ranks second worldwide, trailing only the University of Houston, using total publications on the subject as the basis of comparison.   A number of other U.S. institutions appear in the top 10, including third-ranked North Carolina State University, fourth-ranked University of Illinois, sixth-ranked Iowa State U...
