Spring semester activities in the Turner College are gearing
up. The Turner College Accounting Club
recently met, and members and guests were treated to a fun game of Accounting
Jeopardy. On February 9th, the Turner
College Financial Management Association hosted a panel of recent graduates featuring
Autumn Wilson, Jayson Leatherland, Emily Batchelor and Antonia Bearden. Leatherland and Batchelor represented Aflac,
while Wilson and Bearden represented Synovus and Charles Schwab,
respectively. This was an excellent
networking opportunity for finance majors and other business students. Congratulations
are due to the Turner College Marketing Club for selling 92 boxes of donuts in
its efforts to raise money for a scholarship to that member who shows exemplary
service and contributes to bettering the marketing organization. The staff at Turner Business sends a special thanks to Taylor Parker, Yulia Nurmukhametova and
Handglin Dawkins, the presidents of
these business student organizations.
Not to be outdone, students in the TSYS School of Computer Science recently hosted Benjamin Price, a graduate of its Nexus program in cybersecurity who now works at Global Payments. Price hosted an organized Python study session in the Turner College. “It was fun sharing a little bit of knowledge and experience. I plan on doing more in the future,” Price stated. Computer science and cybersecurity students from Hardaway High School recently visited the TSYS Center for Cybersecurity. These students were able to see cool technology in action - things like game development, ethical hacking (penetration testing), cyber range defense, and robotics. They even got to take the robot dog, Spot, outside for a walk.
Lastly, faculty and students in the TSYS School will have an opportunity on February 16 to attend the African American Women in Stem Forum that will be held in the Schwob Memorial Library on CSU’s main campus. The panelists include Dawn Frazier, a professor of teacher education, leadership, and counseling at CSU, Jherika Tyler, an instructor in CSU’s School of Nursing, Ansley Booker, the Director of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at Mercer University, Deanna Caldwell, an assistant accountant at Southern Union State Community College, and Trina Lumbard, a mathematics instructor at Columbus Technical College. The forum will be moderated by Tracey Herring, the Small Business Manager of the Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce.
