Dean Kidder Visits Girls Inc. of Columbus

Turner College Dean Deborah Kidder visited Girls Inc. of Columbus on September 1 to discuss with Turner College alum, Gail Burgos, CEO of Girls Inc. of Columbus, ways that the two can collaborate in the future.  According to Burgos, “[Dean Kidder] enjoyed spending time with the girls, who introduced themselves, showed her around our Baker Center facility and shared their college and career plans.”  In addition to her work with GIC, Burgos is also the founder and CEO of Burgos Consulting Group, which provides strategic solutions and roadmaps for diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.  Burgos earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the Turner College, a master’s degree in human resource management from Troy University, and a doctorate in organizational theory and leadership from the University of Phoenix.  Prior to joining GIC, she completed a 25-year career with TSYS, last serving as its Chief Diversity Officer.  “It was a pleasure to have a visit from Dr. Kidder . . . We talked about my fintech career path, commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, the Columbus community, and of course Girls Inc. of Columbus . . . My leadership team and I are looking forward to collaborating with Dean Kidder, CSU and the Business school . . .,” Burgos concluded.

Turner College Center Directors Team Up to Study Shirking Behavior in the U.S. House

There has been much recent public discourse concerning violent crime in metropolitan areas in the U.S. The most recent example is U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to deploy U.S. National Guard troops to Washington, D.C., to tamp down what his administration argues is a crime epidemic in the city. Citing reductions in Washington, D.C., crime since 2023, Democratic legislators have referred to Trump’s decision as political theater. Deciphering the political rhetoric can be difficult. On the one hand, the homicide rate (i.e., homicides per 100,000 population) in Washington, D.C., is, according to a recent report by Newsweek , about 2.5 times the U.S. national homicide rate. In this sense, it seems objectively true that Washington, D.C., is a dangerous city.
