Stuart Smith recently joined the Turner College of Business as an assistant professor of accounting. Smith comes to CSU from Louisiana Tech University, where he served as a visiting professor of accounting from fall of 2016 through summer of 2018. Professor Smith earned a PhD in accounting from Georgia State University in 2017. Prior to that, in 2010, he earned a B.S. degree in management from the Georgia Institute of Technology. From 2011 to 2012, Smith, who is a licensed CPA, worked as an accounting analyst APCO in Norcross. Between 2004 and 2008, Smith served in the U.S. Army, completing a 16-month deployment to Iraq. During this period he was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge and an Army Commendation Medal.
Officials in the Turner College's Butler Center for Research and Economic Development recently put the finishing touches on an extensive report on trends in educational programs and occupations in the Columbus area. The report also includes data on business and technology trends. According to Fady Mansour , Director of the Butler Center, there are several key takeaways from the report regarding 10 occupational gaps that currently exist in the Columbus area. First, software development occupation exhibits the biggest labor shortage, with the report adding that the TSYS School has a bachelor's degree program in information technology along with a new AI track for the bachelor's degree in computer science, both of which can qualify students for this occupation.
