College associate professor of finance Brett
Cotten was recognized among five finalists for Columbus State University
Educator of the Year during the Scholastic Honors Convocation in April of
2018. Cotten teaches courses in
investments, corporate finance, international finance, and security
analysis. He is also the faculty advisor
for CSU’s chapter of the Financial Management Association and, in this role,
has led student trips to the University of Dayton’s RISE Conference and
Quinnipiac University’s FAME Forum. He
has also served as the advisor for two student teams participating in the CFA
Institute’s Equity Research Challenge.
Professor Cotten’s research has appeared in the Quarterly Journal of Finance and Accounting, Financial Services Review, and the Journal of Applied Research in Finance and Accounting. Turner College associate professor of
marketing Ed O’Donnell, the 2017
Educator of the Year Award winner, presented the 2018 Award.
Officials in the Turner College's Butler Center for Research and Economic Development recently put the finishing touches on an extensive report on trends in educational programs and occupations in the Columbus area. The report also includes data on business and technology trends. According to Fady Mansour , Director of the Butler Center, there are several key takeaways from the report regarding 10 occupational gaps that currently exist in the Columbus area. First, software development occupation exhibits the biggest labor shortage, with the report adding that the TSYS School has a bachelor's degree program in information technology along with a new AI track for the bachelor's degree in computer science, both of which can qualify students for this occupation.
