The last bit of mortar is being put on the Bill and Olivia Amos Children’s Hospital at Piedmont Columbus. Ribbon cutting is Wednesday, October 9, after which it opens for patient care Monday, October 14.  This state-of-the-art hospital will be west Georgia and east Alabama’s only freestanding children’s hospital. The Bill and Olivia Amos Children’s Hospital is dedicated to delivering best-in-class healthcare to sick and injured children from birth to age 18. In addition to providing specialty inpatient rooms to accommodate the variety of patients it serves, this new facility provides the space needed to expand pediatric programs and services in the future as it continues to meet the growing needs of our diverse community.

The Peachtree Group recently promoted Ja'Nith Dudley to Senior Manager of Talent Acquisition. Over the course of her career Ja'Nith has gained professional experience in  human resources and talent acquisition to include onboarding, benefit and leave administration, employee relations, training, and stock plans. Prior to joining Waffle House in 2014 as a Stock Plan Supervisor,  Ja'Nith earned a BBA in management from the Turner College, during which time she was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha. While with Waffle House, she advanced to Benefits Coordinator, and later to Talent Strategy Manager. From there Ja'Nith joined Peachtree Group in 2021 as Talent Acquisition Manager, a position she held until her recent promotion. Turner Business congratulates Ja'Nith on this recent promotion.

Turner College grad Melissa Moss was recently named Senior Project Manager and Vice President at Renasant Bank. Melissa graduated cum laude from the Turner College with a degree in finance, during which time she served as president of the Turner College's chapter of the Financial Management Association and was inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma. Prior to joining Renasant Bank, Melissa was a Program Implementation Consultant at Global Payments. She began her career as a payroll administrator for Standard Concrete Products. From there she was a financial manager at Faulk & Son, after which she spent almost seven years with TSYS, first as Associate Product Manager and later as Product Development Manager. Turner Business congratulates Melissa on this latest achievement and wishes her the best in the years ahead.

Spring semester course registration for Turner College majors will be opening soon. Registration for seniors and graduate students begins on October 21.  Registration for juniors opens on October 22, while that for sophomores and freshmen opens on October 23 and 24, respectively. Please be sure to schedule a meeting with your advisor prior to your registration placement.

U.S. Representative Buddy Carter recently visited with CSU President Stuart Rayfield and toured the TSYS Center for Cybersecurity on CSU's main campus. While there, Carter learned from Patrick Aiken , Director of the TSYS Center for Cybersecurity, about the TSYS School's in-demand cybersecurity Nexus program  and how it is supporting the state's technology workforce needs. " It's always an honor to host legislative representatives on our two beautiful campuses," Aiken stated after the visit.

A few Turner College faculty are closing in on career milestones with regard to their academic research. Research by Riduan Abid , a computer scientist in the TSYS School, is closing in on 1,500 Google Scholar citations. Abid's academic research has garnered a total of 1,407 Google Scholar citations, with 263 of these coming this year. Next, research by associate professor of marketing, Ed O'Donnell , is nearing 500 career Google Scholar citations. O'Donnell's most highly cited work is a 2005 study on generic product strategies for emerging market exports that appears in the Journal of Management Studies . Lastly, research by Hyrum Carroll , an associate professor of computer science in the TSYS School, is also moving toward 500 Google Scholar citations. Carro ll's most highly cited work is a 2007 study on encoded proteins that appears in Bioinformatics .

TSYS School Chair Rania Hodhod recently delivered a presentation on the role of AI in the Judicial and Prosecution Systems at the Dubai Judicial Institute. Fifty judges and public prosecutors attended in order to hear Hodhod speak about artificial intelligence, machine learning, large language models, particularly as they relate to the judiciary and public prosecution. After the presentation, Hodhod held an interactive Q&A session that led to lively discussion on the topics listed above.
