The TSYS School's Nexus cybersecurity program has grown nearly 500% since the beginning of 2021. During that time nearly 60 students have landed cybersecurity jobs, and students in the program have earned nearly 500 industry certifications from CompTIA and INE. Because of this success and growth, the first floor of the Synovus Center is undergoing a renovation that will expand cybersecurity facilities and add classroom space, faculty offices, and a modern student study room. The student area and Security Operation Center will be completed soon. Here are some photos of the progress and a layout of the new student study area.

The TSYS School of Computer Science hosted representatives from Aflac on February 27th.  The event commenced with an engaging breakfast session where students had the opportunity to interact with the Aflac representatives. Following the breakfast, the Aflac team, led by Brandy Messer, delivered an insightful one-hour talk in the Synovus Center Theater, attended by approximately 100 computer science students and TSYS School faculty Riduan Abid , Lixin Wang and Yesem Peker .  Notably, online students were also able to participate virtually.  According to Peker, the session was hailed as the most informative and engaging our students have ever experienced. "The Aflac team, consisting of nine members, including four alumni and current seniors from our School of Computer Science, shared valuable insights into Aflac's operations, career opportunities, and workplace expectations," Peker explained. The President and CEO of the Georgia Society of CPAs, Boyd Search, is scheduled to speak to the Turner College's Accounting Club on March 7th. The meeting is scheduled for 12:30 pm in Room 305 of the Synovus Center on CSU's main campus. Two student attendees will be randomly chosen to receive a $10 gift card. Search earned a BA in political science and economics from Ohio State University and a BS in accounting from Franklin University. He also earned an MBA from Franklin University. Search has held his current position since 2011.  Prior to that he served as Director of Finance, and later as Vice President for Education and Training, with the Ohio Society of CPAs. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce. Search previously served on the AICPA's National Commission on Diversity and Inclusion.

AccessCyber recently examined 10,584 entry level cybersecurity jobs and discovered a number of interesting details. It discovered that 71% of the jobs required some experience, even in the case of "entry level" positions. On the other hand, only 8% of entry level jobs required paid professional experience. Average entry level and junior candidate salaries ranged from $53,000 to $114,000. Only 18% of the entry level jobs require security clearance. These are associated with either governments, intelligence agencies or defense contractors. Programming languages and ability to code were mentioned in only 12% of entry-level cybersecurity jobs. The most commonly mentioned language is Python. On the other hand, employers do care a lot about certifications. Certifications were mentioned in 83% of jobs, with the most common being Security+ and CISSP. Over 92% of job listings asked candidates to be familiar with "frameworks, standards, and regulations." This past weekend was eventful for Turner College senior Lauren Katzfey , a business administration major who hopes to pursue a career in corporate law. Lauren and her classmates visited the University of North Georgia to participate in  the Georgia Collegiate Honors Conference. While at the Conference, Lauren presented her  Honors Contract titled, "Compelling Cases: An Analysis of Georgia Workers' Compensation." She was also part of the Leadership Panel. "It was a fantastic weekend spent with some amazing people," Lauren stated. Lauren is a student in CSU's Honors College, co-founder and Vice President of Phi Alpha Delta, Secretary of Honoris Causa, and an academic coach at CSU's Learning Success Center. She was also recently inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma honor society. The search profile put together by the Buffkin/Baker firm to facilitate its search for CSU's next provost lauds several of the Turner College's accomplishments. For instance, the TSYS Center for Cybersecurity is listed alongside the Bo Bartlett Center, the Coca-Cola Space Science Center and others as examples of how CSU provides its students with opportunities for academic enrichment, also referred to as "learning laboratories," that exist beyond the classroom. Among the programs that "position graduates to create their future" are the TSYS School's cybersecurity programs , which are described as including traditional degrees, stackable one-year credentials and certificates, and Nexus programs. The profile indicates that the Turner College accounts for 24% of CSU's enrollment, and that in terms of undergraduate academic programs the BBA in general business is CSU's fifth largest academic program, while the BBA in management ranks tenth in enro...

Turner College faculty and staff are wrapping up their preparations for next week's visit from the AACSB accreditation review team. According to the visit schedule, the review team will meet with each individual Turner College faculty committee. The Turner College has separate committees for curriculum, awards and scholarships, assessment, strategic planning, and faculty development. The AACSB review team will also hold separate meetings with tenured faculty and untenured faculty.
