Five Turner College Economics and Finance Faculty Have Combined to Produce 24 A-Level Journal Publications Between 2021 and the Present

A number of faculty in the Turner College's Department of Accounting and Finance, which includes faculty in economics, have produced A-level journal publications in the last few years. This report covers that activity, starting with Joshua Brooks, an associate professor of finance. Brooks is the author of a 2022 study appearing in the Journal of International Money and Finance. He was the winner of the 2024 CSU Excellence in Online Teaching Award, as well as the 2024 Turner College Excellence in Teaching Award.
     Joining Brooks is Tesa Leonce, professor of economics and Associate Dean of the Turner College. In terms of A-level journal publications, 2021 was big year for Leonce, who published in both Empirical Economics and Tourism Economics. Leonce, formerly the chair of the Department of Accounting and Finance, currently serves on the editorial board of Compensation & Benefits Review.
     Next is Fady Mansour, associate professor of economics and Director of the Butler Center for Research and Economic Development. Mansour, who was recently nominated for the 2025 Turner College Excellence in Research Award, has a 2021 publication in Empirical Economics.
     Turner College professor of economics Frank Mixon has 2025 publications in Public ChoiceApplied Economics and American Behavioral Scientist, and 2024 publications in Empirical Economics, Evaluation Review, Journal of Institutional Economics and Scientometrics. In 2022, Mixon added another publication in Scientometrics to go along with studies published in American Business Review, Applied Economics, Journal of Sports Economics and Tourism Economics. In the first year of this analysis, 2021, Mixon added publications in Economic Modelling, Scientometrics, Applied Economics and Empirical Economics. Lastly, Mixon currently has a study in press with American Behavioral Scientist and two with Applied Economics
     Finally, associate professor of economics Wen Shi contributes to this analysis with a 2021 study published in the Journal of Forecasting, marking her fourth A-level publication since earning her PhD 10 years ago. Shi currently serves as the discipline coordinator for economics in the Department of Accounting and Finance.
     In all, five economics and finance faculty in the Turner College have, from 2021 to the present, published 24 A-level journal articles. The group is led by Mixon with 19, followed by Leonce with two. Turner Business congratulates these faculty on their recent success.

New Butler Center Report Identifies Employment Gaps in the Columbus Area

Officials in the Turner College's Butler Center for Research and Economic Development recently put the finishing touches on an extensive report on trends in educational programs and occupations in the Columbus area. The report also includes data on business and technology trends.  According to Fady Mansour , Director of the Butler Center, there are several key takeaways from the report regarding 10 occupational gaps that currently exist in the Columbus area. First,  software development occupation exhibits the biggest labor shortage, with the report adding that the TSYS School has a bachelor's degree program in information technology along with a new AI track for the bachelor's degree in computer science, both of which can qualify students for this occupation.
