Turner College associate professor of management Mark James received the 2024 Turner College Excellence in Graduate Teaching Award at the organization's 2024 faculty and staff retreat on April 30. James, who previously won CSU's 2021 Chappell Graduate Faculty Award, utilizes a teaching approach focusing on the everyday application and benefits of the course subject matter. "Towards that goal I go beyond just turning Power Point slides in the classroom. I bring in other materials such as current events, academic journal articles, and videos to give the students a broader learning experience," James explained. James' overall teaching philosophy for graduate courses is engagement and learning through research. Towards that end goal, he structures his classes in a way that encourage students to ask questions, investigate topics, gather data, analyze information, and draw their own conclusions. In doing so, he emphasizes active participation, critical thinking, problem-solving, everyday application, and collaboration. "I lecture my students from the perspective that what we do in our graduate courses is relevant and observable in everyday life. I encourage my students to think like scientists and observe the world and see how the theories we discuss in class are observable in the everyday actions of people and events," James added. Turner Business congratulates Mark on this outstanding achievement.

The video is played as part of a loop on video screens placed throughout the Synovus Center. Lizzy's list of activities at CSU is impressive.
