Turner College Grad Kayra Velez Shares Successful Professional Journey through LinkedIn

In her role as Senior Marketing Specialist at Centricity Research, Turner College alum Kayra Velez, collaborates closely with senior leaders and executives to comprehend business needs and brand implications, directs strategic efforts for brand-focused digital marketing campaigns to strengthen brand identity and presence, and develops branding materials using diverse tactics that effectively articulate key brand messages to target audiences. Her ability to perform these tasks successfully has been developed over the course of her professional career, which began during her senior year in the Turner College when she completed an internship in marketing and planning with the River Valley Regional Commission (RVRC). That experience propelled Kayra into the position of Marketing Manager for at RVRC, which she held for more than two years. Kayra transition from RVRC into the post of Associate Director of Alumni Engagement at CSU, wherein she co-led the design, launch, and implementation of a new alumni website and content management system. After two years in this post, Kayra took on the role of executive assistant to the Regional Hospital Administrator (CEO) of the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities. In this position, which she held for more than five years, Kayra overhauled all of the organization's marketing materials, managed hospital Foundation Board relations, and co-chaired the Employee Resource Function Team. From there and leading up to her current position with Centricity Research, Kayra accepted several successive job titles with Research Designed, including Social Media Coordinator, Digital Communications Specialist, and Senior Digital Communications Specialist. Her Turner College education, including a BBA in marketing earned in 2011, has definitely assisted in Kayra's professional success to date. During her undergraduate studies, Kayra was a student in the Honors College and a member of the Hispanic Student Organization. Kayra was a recipient of a HOPE scholarship and a Tower Society scholarship, both in addition to financial support from the LULAC Scholarship Fund and the Hispanic Scholarship Fund. Thus, it is no surprise that she graduated cum laude and was inducted into the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Kayra often shares the lessons she learned at CSU and through her professional experiences on her LinkedIn pages. Jung Exploring Influence of Confucianism on Luxury Brand Performance in China, Japan and South Korea

In a recent chat with Turner Business , Turner College professor of marketing Sungwoo Jung made the point that luxury brands are gaining the degree of influence in many developing countries that they enjoy now in developed countries.  He has been pondering this issue as part of his international marketing research program, which typically focuses on advertising, pioneering advantages and multi-cultural analysis.  Currently, Jung is concentrating his energies on a cross-cultural analysis of brand equity that highlights luxury brands’ performance.  His research finds that China, Japan and South Korea have each seen an increase in market share for luxury brands in recent years.  As Jung explained to Turner Business , “These three countries share a common philosophical background – Confucianism.”  With that point in mind, Jung and his coauthors are currently engaged in an investigation of how Confucianism influences consumer behavior in these three Asian countries, and how that behavior im

Turner College Grad Publishes Academic Study on Corporate Culture and Strategy

Former Turner College student Tamara Todorova , now an associate professor of economics at American University in Bulgaria (AUB), recently published a study on corporate culture and strategy. Todorova earned an MBA from the Turner College in 1996 and then went on to earn a doctorate in international economics from the University of Economics - Varna in 2001. She has been on the faculty at AUB since August of 2000. Todorova's study, which appears in the current issue of the International Journal of Business Performance Management , investigates how corporate culture helps to economize on the transaction costs of internal organization. As she explains, the dimensions of corporate culture that assist in this task include increasing trust and reducing intrafirm opportunism. Todorova's study demonstrates that setting common goals and a common direction reduces the sizeable costs of internal organization.
