Faculty and staff of the Turner College will gather in the Synovus Center main lobby on Thursday, November 30, at 12:30 pm to celebrate Shamim Khan, as he is set to retire at the end of fall semester 2023. For the past several years, Khan, an associate professor computer science, has served as Chair of the TSYS School. In that position, he has led TSYS School faculty to a number of outstanding accomplishments, many of which are described on the pages of Turner Business. Those wishing to attend the celebration are requested to RSVP to Jennifer Stone at stone_jennifer2@columbusstate.edu. Turner Business joins the CSU community in wishing Shamim a happy retirement.
Officials in the Turner College's Butler Center for Research and Economic Development recently put the finishing touches on an extensive report on trends in educational programs and occupations in the Columbus area. The report also includes data on business and technology trends. According to Fady Mansour , Director of the Butler Center, there are several key takeaways from the report regarding 10 occupational gaps that currently exist in the Columbus area. First, software development occupation exhibits the biggest labor shortage, with the report adding that the TSYS School has a bachelor's degree program in information technology along with a new AI track for the bachelor's degree in computer science, both of which can qualify students for this occupation.
