The Turner College’s TSYS School of Computer Science hosted the ISACA - Atlanta Chapter’s “Cybersecurity in Action” training workshop in October. The workshop was held at CSU’s TSYS Cybersecurity Center as part of the university’s National Cybersecurity Month lineup of events. Workshop attendees benefited from four facilitated sessions that included demonstrations of the TSYS School’s new Cyber Range and Security Operations Center (SOC). Presenters included Fort Benning Garrison Commander Col. Alexis Rivera, W.C. Bradley Director of Information Security Mark Bradford, Global Payments Director of SIEM Engineering Ben Watson, Global Payments Director of Security Incident Response Robert Yager and Synovus Senior Director of Cyber Threat Management and Security Lee Himes. CSU, one of the first universities in the state to be recognized by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and National Security Agency (NSA) as a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense, is home to the first Cyber Range available for academic and industry training. The range is the same range used to train the Israeli Defense Force to protect the nation of Israel from cyber attacks. The TSYS Cybersecurity Center
was created in response to a shortage of cybersecurity professionals in today’s workforce. The range allows students to gain hands-on experience that is highly sought after in the industry, and invites professionals to practice “live-fire” exercises to address over 50,000 versions of malware on an exact replica of a company’s network. ISACA is an international professional association that serves more than 140,000 constituents (members and professionals holding ISACA certifications in assurance, governance, risk and information security) in more than 180 countries. Chapters provide education, resource sharing, advocacy, networking and other benefits. The Atlanta Chapter is one of the largest chapters with over 7,500 members.
